Owners Emil and Hea min Horvath-Gerber retired to the shores of Lake Taupo over a decade ago. The multilingual couple are outstanding chefs and wine connoisseurs who worked and traveled the world before putting down roots in New Zealand.. In the lodge nothing is superfluous. Every facility is at hand in these spacious four rooms, from underfloor heating and power shower in the bathroom to a 21st century lighting and sound system that beggars belief. A Swiss-designed fully natural bed renders insomnia obsolete and the sleek bathroom and generous supply of toiletries extends to a five-star amenities pack. Tariffs at Chalet Eiger include a belt-busting breakfast. Four-course meals are cooked on request, using organic produce from the garden.
